THIE Inventory List

Can the THIE Inventory List (Tea list) be used as an aid with regard to the evaluation of aqueous extracts in food supplements?

The European Tea Association updated its food tea list in June 2022. It lists herbs that have been proven to be recognized as food teas. The list can be used as an aid for the assessment of aqueous extracts in food supplements. Factors such as the initial quantity (does it correspond to a normal quantity of tea?) and the processing after aqueous extraction must be taken into account in the assessment (are there further purification steps or blending?). However, the overall consideration of all factors is always decisive for the assessment, for example with regard to safety, differentiation and novelty (Novel Food status).
